UK: The Seed Community

24-7 Prayer has a vision to create a Motherhouse to provide a Hub for the 24-7 Prayer Movement, a Home for the global network of 24-7 Communities (including the Order of the Mustard Seed), and a local House of Prayer, Mission and Justice.

Our mission is to bring renewal and resource to the Church, to be a place where God’s purposes are birthed, and leaders and ministries are incubated.

Location

Our Story

Our inspiration is Herrnhut, the village in Saxony, built on Count Zinzendorf's estate, that became the epicentre of the Moravian 100-year prayer meeting, and from which the Great Missions Movement of the Reformation was launched.

We will ultimately implement this vision through:

  • A residential community to host the presence of God, to host pilgrims who travel to the Motherhouse, and to model 24-7 Prayer's culture and values
  • A disciplined rhythm of persistent prayer and worship, hosted by the residential community
  • Hospitality for pilgrims
  • The creation of a centre of excellence for spiritual teaching and educational resources
  •  An incubator for creativity
  • Enterprise, as an outworking of prayer and worship
  • Refuge for 24-7 Prayer affiliated missionaries and activists, to help facilitate respite and restoration

In September 2020 we begin the outworking of this vision by establishing the Seed Community on the Waverley Abbey Estate. Jill & Kirk Weber have just moved into Waverley Abbey House.

In addition to hosting onsite and online prayer, the Seed Community will be running onsite and online retreats, courses, and internships.

Internship: Exploring the Ancient Paths (October - May)
Exploring the Ancient Paths is an 8-month part time internship (about 6 hours a week) designed to equip disciples of Jesus to love God and love their neighbours, by drawing from the riches of historic and contemporary monastic prayer communities.

In this experimental and practice- based learning community, you will explore a variety of topics, including prayer, hospitality, and justice. For the time being, the internship will be on zoom. However, as social distancing eases, it should be possible to learn together onsite.
