Iraq: Christian death toll rises - 26 Oct 2004

Last week a little Chaldean Christian girl was brutally murdered by a group of Islamic terrorists in Baghdad. The group kidnapped the child and demanded ransom money for her release, but the distraught parents were unable to pay the sum. On 14 October her body was delivered to their home.

This is the latest in a series of attacks on Iraqi Christians. Since 2003 at least 88 Christians have been killed in sectarian attacks, according to local radio, print media and websites. Below is a list published today by an Iraqi Christian web site and the Syrian Christian magazine Zauaa.

Christian media in Iraq and elsewhere in the Middle East have expressed deep concern for the future of the Christian community in Iraq, calling for protection from the local authorities, an intervention by the international forces and prayers.
