Punk Monk: "Your Community Will Never Be The Same"Charlotte Terris - 8 Jan 2010
I received this brilliant email from Libby Page, who recently read Pete Greig and Andy Freemanʼs book Punk Monk. It was so encouraging I wanted to share Libbyʼs response to this 24-7 story…
“What I loved about Punk Monk is that itʼs a story of two guys who have followed their dream… From a young age I wanted to be a Monk, but I could never quite get my head around why Monks separated themselves from the world and how that could be helpful. Punk Monk has helped me learn for myself that if we take away our crutches, our normal daily rhythm, our own ambitions, specifically to focus some time on contemplating God… well, things change. Things happen. We lean more heavily on Him.
Punk Monk gives the reader a really practical approach to prayer. Reading it was like walking onto a building site back in the days of building cathedrals. Watching the masters at their crafts; each working with their own skills to build something that none of them could do alone. All to glorify God. Reading this book has been like having the builders give me tools and show me how to use them… I knew that anything was possible.
Since putting down Punk Monk I’ve had so many ideas of ways to help in my community. I still have the tools in hand, its time to get some dirt under my nails…
Sometimes books are publicised as 'Amazing…. It will change your life' The pitch for this one should read 'Amazing…. Your community will never be the same!'”
We love it when people are impacted by the stories of everyday people open to God. If you want to be inspired and motivated too, why not pick up your copy of Punk Monk today.
