Baghdad Prays 24-7Carla Harding - 12 Jan 2010
I received this amazing report from Rebecca Gower and couldn’t wait to share it with you all...
Good news! 24-7 Prayer has been launched in Baghdad, Iraq!
The long-term goal is to set up an accessible house of prayer in St George's Church on Haifa Street, one of the most notorious streets in Baghdad. Faiz (lay Pastor) and Canon Andrew White (pictured left) launched 24-7 Prayer there as a series of weekly half an hour slots at a Sunday service and within a matter of hours they were all filled. Currently, because of the security risks at St George's Church these times of prayer will take place at home, but in the long-term it would be wonderful to have a safe space, dedicated to prayer, calling on the presence of the peace of Jesus and bringing God's kingdom to earth. Do I hear an AMEN?
In solidarity with Iraqi Christians we're asking the 24-7 Prayer community to join St George's in prayer. SIGN UP NOW. Just email me and I'll get back to you with available times. Pray in your room, in a church building or at University. We don't mind, just please get praying!
We'll send out weekly prayer points to all interested parties, to get some ideas rolling. With the imminent Iraqi elections now moved to March, there's predictable unrest and a great need for prayer at this crucial time, which could be a turning point for Iraq and with it the Middle East.
