5 Years OnScot Bower - 25 Jan 2010
5 years ago God interrupted my life with a question ‘What are you living for?’ He continued ‘You say you are living for me and yet don’t you mean your church? That you’re living for your career? Your family? Your home?’ Each line was a jolt to my heart and I spent much of the next hour in a self-made puddle on the floor asking for and receiving forgiveness and at the same time listening to the gentle words of Jesus realigning my life.
That conversation took place at the back of a church hall during the 24-7 Prayer IAM5 party. A lot has happened since that day. Some of it has felt sad; like selling our home and some of it releasing giving away everything we owned that wouldn’t fit in our 1980’s campervan. Some of it frightening; we are currently in the UK waiting for hospital test results for our son Evan who became seriously ill in Bulgaria. Some of it joyful beyond belief; I remember re-entering Macedonia last year to finally come and live in Skopje, we sounded our car horn more or less constantly from the border to the city limits. More often than not the past 5 years have been a thrilling roller coaster ride as Jesus opened our eyes to more of him through new friendships, serving communities, the wide and diverse nature of the church in Europe as well as its beautifully colourful spiritual history. Its been quite a journey.
And now 5 years on its time for another party. On Saturday 13th February 24-7 Prayer will be hosting their tenth birthday celebrations. IAM10 will take place in London and we are expecting to see and make lots of friends.
Be warned though IAM5 changed my life forever and I’m pretty sure God will be using IAM10 in the same way. So if I see anyone on their knees at the back of the hall with tears and snot running down their face I’ll be the one with a wry smile praying a blessing over you.
