Best of 2010 - Campus America: Tours, Numbers and ShortsRachel Wegner - 27 Dec 2010
In January 2010 Campus America was launched by 24-7 Prayer in the United States with the vision to put a Prayer Room on every university and college campus in the U.S.
Greetings from a (finally) autumnal Kansas City!
September has gone by in a blur, what with a flurry of campuses praying, a string of last-minute trips to visit and encourage students and about half our team heading “over the pond” to join the Magnify 2010 gathering. We have also excitedly seen our Boston-based teammates Nathan Chud and Trent Sheppard officially launch the God on Campus Tour. Their first pair of dates were at the University of Rhode Island and Brown University on the east coast on September 29 and 30. We’ll have some updates from the road as Nate and Trent continue to travel, and as other teammates join them intermittently. Keep track of the tour and the latest updates at the official God on Campus Tour website.
Currently, our prayer calendar is blissfully full until the first week of November, with more schools adding dates nearly every week. Here are a few fun statistics and numbers the capture the last month of Campus America happenings:
- More than 200 students from nearly every campus ministry gathered for a night of worship on campus at the University of Lincoln Nebraska on September 10. The worship night was preceded by 24 hours of prayer at a local house of prayer. Myself and another Campus America teammate jumped in the car at a moment’s notice and made the three hour drive to join them. It was an incredible time of prayer, worship and intercession!
- Two of us were also able to join a passionate band of about 40 students in Alabama from September 24-25, and then watched as multiple campuses signed up for 21 days of prayer that will take place from October 11-31.
- -Bethel University in Minnesota launched 40 days of prayer on September 15 and will wrap up on October 25.
- As a team, we have committed to praying for all 50 states during the next few months. We’ve taken on 3-4 states a week during our regular prayer times, and have prayed for more than 10 states so far!
During September, we also posted a series of Campus America “shorts” featuring students answering essential questions like, “What Do You Mean by 24-7 Prayer?” and “Why Should This Generation Pray?” We just launched another series that illustrate simple concepts for prayer. Here’s the first of that series, entitled "Pray With Freedom":
New videos are posted every Tuesday. Keep up with our latest videos and view the full series via our Vimeo channel. As always, there is also a steady stream of stories via www.campusamerica.org and updates from our Twitter feed.
Until next time, friends.
