Crediting the Miracle Rescue in ChileScot Bower - 15 Oct 2010

The watching world held it's collective breath this week as 33 miners trapped nearly a kilometer below ground for over 2 months awaited rescue.

As they emerged one by one, bearded and sun-blind, a Chilean priest, chaplain to the country's president was being interviewed by the BBC. He gave thanks for a miracle:

"Scientists, politicians, presidents - we’ve all come together in one happy moment saying, ‘Goodness! God is there and he answers prayer.’

Details have emerged that testify to the goodness of God and the power of prayer.  Presidential Chaplain Rev'd Cooper told the BBC about emergency prayer meetings and non-stop persistent prayer while the miners were trapped.

Another article from the BBC highlighted the importance of the miners daily prayer times: In addition to their rhythm of work and rest they gathered to pray at midday and again in the early evening.

UK Christian news website www.christian.org.uk have published a transcript of the BBC interview and have the original audio file to listen to online.

If you haven't done so already, I'd urge you to read Pete Greig's well timed feature 'God of the Possible' and then listen to the interview which perfectly illustrates Pete's theme.
