Prayer inspired Clothing inspires PrayerSheena Littlehale - 15 Dec 2010

SacclothAnashes is an ethical clothing company with a difference. They produce high quality, well-designed, ethically sourced Ts and hoodies that inspire prayer.

Robin Fletcher the brains, heart and hands behind S and A, set out to follow a dream that had been on his heart since his teens; a clothing label with a purpose. I recently got the opportunity to ask him a few questions about how it all came about and hear what he thinks of it all:

Why Clothing?

Wearing the clothing will not make anyone different, but in most western cultures not wearing clothes is inappropriate. If you wear clothes why not wear something that in its most basic form serves as a reminder that when YOU PRAY, GOD MOVES. There is no 'magic' in the clothing, but there is 'magic' in DEEP connection with our Father.

Where did you get the idea for Saccloth Anashes, and how did you get started?

The phrase ‘sack-cloth and ashes’ came up in conversation with a close friend while we mused over coffee in the back of a cafe during the summer of 2000. I remember thinking “What a great name for a brand!” Years passed by…I started fiddling around with logos and eventually designed the overlapping S and A that became the SacclothAnashes brand. About a month later I was nearly asleep when God prodded me and said “If you put a sphere on the top right hand corner it becomes a person on their knees”. At that moment I knew that this was something we needed to follow through to the end, it tied in so well with what it means to "spiritually" put on sackcloth and ashes.

Over the years it’s become clear how God at that time was weaving that vision back into the fabric of the collective Church in the UK. After our launch we heard from a lot of people who were feeling just as passionately about 2 Chronicles 7:14:

“if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

What’s the most challenging part about doing what you do?

It is just me. I do everything…accounts, website, printing, even sewing labels! We have some volunteers, friends and family (that we love) who help out when we are busy, but other than that it can be a lonely existence.

What’s the best thing about doing what you do?

Creating. Everything we do is designed, printed and decorated in a house in Birmingham UK, so it is very rewarding work. God loves to create, I love that! So He gives me design ideas…everything comes from him and needs to go through him. It is such an honor to be in a position to be used by him!

Depending on when you’re reading this you may be in time to order for Christmas or you may like to hold on and spend your Aunts Christmas cheque on a T-shirt in your post-christmas bargain hunting! You can order online and S and A will deliver world-wide.
