At Last, 24-7 is OFFICIALLY uncool. - 17 Dec 2004

Rolling Stone has, as you may know, been stalking us. A (very nice) journalist from the world's leading Rock n Roll publication spent time with 24-7 tribes in both Amsterdam and Ibiza over the last year, and has written a 6,000 word article for the magazine. This would have been the biggest single feature, due out any day now. I say 'would have' because we have just received an email from Kim, the journalist, informing us that "Rolling Stone killed my piece on y’all.."

They've killed it because George Bush won the Presidential election. Honestly! As a result people who are arty, young and generally Rock 'n Roll are now apparently feeling pretty naffed off with Christians (the perception being that it was the Christian vote that put Bush back in power). The email informs us that we are now apparently (and hilariously) 'out of sync with 'the American Zeitgeist'! This is pretty hilarious, as we've been telling them from the start that we're not cool enough to be in their magazine - and reminding them that a prayer movement isnt exactly rock 'n roll. But would they listen? They would not!

Zeit·geist
The spirit of the time; the taste and outlook characteristic of a period or generation. The word derives from the German 'Zeit' meaning 'Tide' and 'Geist' meaning Ghost or Spirit.

'aliens in

the

world'
Officially uncool!
So, ladies and gentlemen, whatever your political persuasion (and, ironically ,some of you appear to be somewhere to the left of Chairman Mao), the bad news is that we are not gonna be in Rolling Stone after all in spite of many months of work and thousands of (their) dollars.
However the good news, is that 24-7 is now officially out of tune with the spirit of the age, (and Rolling Stone is about as Official as you can get on these things). THIS IS GREAT NEWS! It means that , while we are culturally present enough to be on the radar of mainstream interest, we remain culturally irrelevant enough to be considered alternative and subversive which is EXACTLY where we need to be. Culturally present but gloriously different, 'aliens in the world' as the apostle Peter put it. 'Out of sync with the American zeitgeist' according to Rolling Stone!

The other bit of good news is that the article is still going to feature, this Friday, on a great web site called Salon as their opening piece. To read the site WITHOUT paying, click on the option that forces you to watch a silly Lexus ad or some such. It's short, at least! We do hope this news isn’t too disappointing to you.
