3 reasons why you should join the Macedonian Mission team this summerScot Bower - 9 Apr 2011
Time is fast running out to apply for the first of 24-7 Prayer's mission teams. The application deadline deadline for the Macedonian mission team is up on the 13th April.
Here are 3 reasons why I think you should consider applying:
1: Glasnost
Glasnost are a 24-7 community based in 2 cities in Macedonia, Skopje and Veles. This group are all first generation believers who grew up in the communist regime of Yugoslavia and in the messy aftermath of the break up of that country. These are a group of people who have fallen in love with Jesus and are working out what church might look like in their country and in their generation. Immensely creative and with a heart for justice they live out the values of 24-7 in a way that is brings prayer and mission to life.
The team will be hosted by Glasnost and spend time getting to know the community joining in with their weekly rhythms.
2: Shutka
The area to the north of the capital Skopje is home to the largest Roma settlement in Europe. Over 100,000 Roma live here often in temporary buildings and corrugated iron huts. However despite the poverty Shutka is a place of colour and laughter. Here there's a chance to get involved with a Christian kindergarten run by some of the Glasnost crew. They take children at the age of 4 and look after them until they are ready for school at 7. During this time they teach the kids who Jesus is and who they are in the eyes of God. They teach respect and love for one another in such a way that the lives of these kids and their families are truly changed.
3: Balkan gathering
This will be the third annual gathering for 24-7'ers in the Balkan region and we're hoping representatives from all the Balkan nations will join us for a weekend of prayer, worship and connecting in the lakeside town of Ohrid in southern Macedonia.
The team will take part in the gathering and get to know church planters, missionaries and other 24-7 types from across this volatile region of Southeast Europe.
And there you have it: 3 reasons, from amongst a whole bunch, explaining just why you should be part of the team to Macedonia this June. If you'd like more reasons or want some details visit the teams2011 page or email the team.
