Pray for East AfricaPeter Stanley - 20 Jul 2011
News of the worst drought to hit East Africa in 60 years is slowly filtering through to our western news reels. Sadly this disaster affecting over 10million people in Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia and South Sudan hasn't yet been given the attention it warrants.
Please take the time now to remember the poor, the starving and the displaced of Eastern Africa. As Dabaab in Kenya becomes the worlds largest refugee camp, as children die foraging for firewood, as millions of peoples live fall apart… Pray!
‘Slowly but surely these people have seen their lives fall apart – crops, livestock and now their homes have been taken by the drought.’ - Disasters Emergency Committee chief executive Brendan Gormley
Please join me in praying for East Africa.
Lord Jesus we ask first that rain would return and that crops would be restored.
We pray for grace and strength for aid agencies and hospitals in the stricken areas.
We pray protection over families especially for children of the displaced.
And we pray too Lord for our own governments and for the governments of the world especially the G20 countries, that they would respond swiftly, appropriately with grace and generosity towards the worlds poor, protecting the vulnerable from rising food prices.
In the name of Jesus Christ who too was once a refugee.
