The Extraordinary 24-7 AuctionScot Bower - 27 Jul 2011
We need your help. What should we auction this year?
The highlight of many an international gathering may appear frivolous and wasetful to an outsider."Why on earth would anyone pay crazy hundreds of pounds for a 4 track cd?" "Why is a husband bidding against his wife for a 2nd hand notebook???". And why are they bidding THAT much? How much!?!"
It's not uncommon to see bank notes and coins heaped on the floor whilst one or two people in a group scrabble on their hands and knees counting it up to see if they have enough to outbid their friends on the other side of the room. At the last European gathering in Amsterdam 2 groups who were bidding against each other for the chance to take home one of Peggy's hand knitted t-shirts, came together in a ludicrous act of generosity when they combined their cash, paying twice the asking price, with the assurance that Pete Greig would be made to wear the woolen top at next years gathering (which reminds me: who has that t-shirt? and does Pete still owe us a catwalk appearance?)
The point is though that the auction raises lots of cash for a person or persons who really need some blessing. Our giving is extravagant and expresses our love of people who are living sacrificially as well as our thanks and confidence in God for providing so brilliantly.
This year's Eurogathering in Frankfurt will be no exception, Brian Heasley from 24-7 Ibiza will be hosting the auction at some point during our weekend together. He'll be auctioning off items brought and donated by 24-7ers from all over Europe.
The big question is what will this years auction theme be? In the past we've had homemade t-shirts, 'pimped' copies of Red Moon Rising, bobble hats and music compilations. So what should we auction this year? We need your suggestions; then next month we'll let you know the theme and we can all get creating.
Please leave your feedback below, post your idea on our facebook page or tweet us.
Tickets are still available for the 24-7 Eurogathering which takes place in Frankfurt, Germany from 6th - 8th October this year. Book yours now.
