Pray for Victims of Hurricanes Around the WorldRachel Wegner - 2 Sep 2011

This week Hurricane Irene stole centre stage in many news reports around the world. The 24-7 Prayer USA team put out a call to prayer which is published below. Whilst 24-7 want to encourage prayer for those in the US whose lives have been thrown into chaos and especially for those that are mourning the loss of loved ones we also recognise that this week natural disasters have devastated thousands of lives around the world. Hurricanes have hit the Phillipines as well as the US and severe flooding in Nigeria has left thousands homeless and hundreds dead.

Please, as you read the post below, remember to include victims of natural disasters from all around the world in your prayers.

If you are in Nigeria, The Phillipines or anywhere else around the world that is suffering due to huricanes or other natural disasters please get in touch and tell us how we can pray for your nation.

Hurricane Irene formed on August 20, 2011 and battered the Caribbean and the eastern United States until finally dissipating on August 29. Once it reached the eastern seaboard of the U.S., Irene moved all the way from Florida to New England and as far inland as Pennsylvania. Even after the storm broke up, the remaining weather system caused problems in Canada as heavy rains and high winds knocked out power and damaged buildings.

Severe flooding, extensive wind damage and at least 46 deaths across 13 states in the U.S. were reported in the wake of Hurricane Irene, which marked the first major hurricane of the 2011 hurricane season. Millions are left recovering from the storm’s impact, many of whom remain without electricity.

As countless people recover from the impact of Hurricane Irene and the 2011 hurricane season, here are a few ways you can pray.

  • Pray that Christians and local church communities will continue to unite to offer relief and to make God’s love and the name of Jesus known.
  • Pray for divine protection in this vulnerable time as the Caribbean and U.S. brace for more storms to come.
  • Pray for wisdom for government and relief agency workers as they help the impact zones recover from Hurricane Irene.
