Team Abolition Takes on the Justice RunRebecca Dunning - 20 Oct 2011

A Few Hours Spent-A Few Lives Saved

I believe that when God’s people live as family and enter into listening prayer, we often end up becoming part of the answer to those prayers. In other words, I believe justice and mercy flow as a natural response to being a son or daughter in the kingdom of God instead of being manufactured by creating a structure. It seems that it often looks like people doing the things they love, just more intentionally.

Team Abolition is a group thrown together by our mutual love for Jesus, competing in races and/or climbing and our desire to raise awareness and funds for anti-human trafficking. This past Sunday the 25th September we headed to Denver, Colorado for the second annual Justice Run, which benefited the Justice Project, a group that seeks out women being held against their wills in the Red Light District and brings healing to those rescued.

This year’s Justice Run was a 5 and 10k run that drew in 302 registrants and raised $ 9,500.00 and climbing due to ongoing donations.

As is typical, our red jerseys drew questions and began conversations with race participants, in which we were able to share about modern slavery and discuss ways to get involved. A fun side note:  All three guys who competed, Christian Bass, Clint Dunning and Adam Manly scored top awards in their age categories. ( With Adam pushing a 4 and 2 year old in a stroller!)

Here are a few alarming facts:

  • The average life expectancy of a human trafficking victim is only 4 years.
  • Human trafficking is the fasted growing criminal industry in the world.
  • The demand for younger children in the sex trade is increasing.

Please pray with me:

Father, we ask for the physical, mental, psychological and spiritual healing for not only the victims of slavery but also their abusers. Step in God and address the root issues of this trade such as poverty and immorality in the nations. We ask that you would work from the grass roots level all the way to governments to eradicate human trafficking. Glorify your name as you extend your justice and mercy. - Amen.
