Come to Heaven on Friday! - 24 Jan 2005
A new and growing 24-7prayer clubbing Mission Team in London, England, are currently doing a club and pray tour around 7 of London's most influential clubs - simply praying and worshipping as they dance to some of their favourite music and DJs - and opening themselves up to anything that God wants them to do. Bruce Gardiner-Crehan reports on their fourth trip out - to a club called Heaven...
On Friday 26 November 2004, 7 of us gathered to pray and eat together at St Mary's in Marylebone. We were all really excited and wondering what kind of night we were about to be a part of. DJ Paul Van Dyk at Gatecrasher in a nightclub called 'Heaven'. What a combination!?
|
As a small group of friends on this exciting journey with God into clubland, we finished eating and got down to some serious prayer and waiting and listening to God. |

This is so important to all that we do, and we called on God for about an hour or so: for God's favour to rest with us; for God to fill us with faith and confidence to reach out to the many clubbers that we were to meet.
|
After pouring out our hearts, we all got the train to Charing Cross, in central London, and joined the queue. Our thoughts were confirmed - it was packed. As we pushed our way into the crowd, we managed to find a piece of floor the size of a stamp and settled down for the journey that the DJ was to take us on. |

There were people from all over the world there, all totally up for a great night out, and it was awesome to be there, representing God and praying for God to pour out his love.
The music was trance; pure, hard and crisp - the kind of sound that pleads with you to lift your hands up and worship. It was an amazing sight to see so many people lifting their hands in worship, but we knew that most were reaching out to the DJ or to some other higher force. But to be a part of that was good and right for us, and we danced till the wee small hours.
A highlight of the evening (or rather morning!) was meeting a group of 3 South Africans, totally up for it, and we got to know them and chilled out with them in the 'Chill Out' room - where else?
We knew that this was not any chance meeting, and it became clear that God had really wanted us to speak into their lives.
|
Later in the morning, as we sat in McDonalds, nurturing our tired bodies and filling our stomachs, one team member told us about what happened to her earlier that week...
She had been speaking to a friend of hers on the phone about going to the club when her friend interrupted her saying she felt she had a word from God for someone who we were going to meet that night. |
We knew that this was not any chance meeting.... so (prayerfully) gave her this little piece of paper containing some precious 'God Words'....God wanted to speak to this girl, and he used us in the middle of this packed nightclub. |

She was unsure of what that was all about, but nonetheless, as we got to know these South Africans, it became apparent that the word was for one of them (a name had been given with the word and it was this girl's name!). So she (prayerfully) gave her this little piece of paper containing some precious 'God Words'. We thought that this was kind of cool. God wanted to speak to this girl, and he used us in the middle of this packed nightclub. Howz about that? God - You Rock!!!!!
All in all, it was great to be there, to worship our creator - the Lord of the Dance and the Lord of the beats. After parting at about 7am, we all made our own ways home, tired, yet totally satisfied that God had worked through us and we all had a cheeky smile on our tired little faces. I'll leave that with you...
Our next club and pray session in London is on Friday 28 January and we will be going to Pacha. The night is "Back to Ibiza" so should be a good one!
If you would like to join us or are interested in finding out more, please email Sarah Smith on [email protected]
Also, if you're not a clubber, but you would like to support us in prayer, we would love to hear from you too!
Not in the UK / London?
If you fancy doing something like this in your own local area, do get in touch. We would like to have a 24-7 Prayer co-ordinated clubbing weekend in Spring 2005 where groups of clubbers all over the place are clubbing praying and worshipping as a community together. What a powerful weekend that could be!
