Thailand: tribe sacrifices sleep to be with Jesus - 4 Feb 2005
Kim Hughes of 24-7 Canada is in Thailand right now working with YWAM and regularly gives us prayer requests and news from the nation whose coastal areas were devastated in the recent tsunami.
As part of her work, Kim (see pic) recently visited a small Karen Hilltribe village in Northern Thailand (The Karens are Thailand's largest hilltribe, with a population of more than 500,000). Here a pastor has called his congregation to be prayerful watchmen.
She writes: "Members of the church start arriving at the church at 2am, every single day, to meet with God and intercede for their people! Between 2am-4am members gather and spend time privately with God, at 4:30 they join together to read and pray!
These villagers sacrifice their sleep-time to be with Jesus, even though the rest of their day is filled with intense and difficult labour!
I was so encouraged and blessed to see the persistence of these believers,
2am is a cold and uncomfortable hour! And their days are so long! But
their faith has affected their whole lives, though they have nothing they
love Jesus, and they loved us! We were so blessed to join them for their
morning vigil!
Very Cool!"
