Crowd-Surfing & Footwashing: Thoughts on IAM5 from our new Abbess - 17 Feb 2005

"The recent IAM5 birthday event in London was also the commissioning for my new role as Abbess of the new City of London Boiler Room. I loved it. I was reminded again of the privilege of being part of a movement that God seems to be stirring all the time. I loved being a bit old in that context. I loved feeling not very cool. I loved the sense of acceptance and challenge. And I loved being crowd surfed. Who could not want to be part of something that sends you into a mission field borne literally on the hands of many, and then washes your feet?"

Commissioning Jude Smith (City of London Boiler Room) and Brian & Tracy Heasley (Ibiza) by crowd-surfing them.

Alongside Brian and Tracey Heasley who are setting up a Boiler Room in Ibiza, Jude Smith (left) was commissioned as the new City of London Boiler Room Abbess at the IAM5 birthday event last weekend. The Boiler Room, set to open in June, is located near the corner of Tabernacle and Worship Street and across the road from The Prophet pub!

It's also very close to John Wesley's Foundry, a site significant to the founding of the Methodist church! With the building being provided by members of the business community, it will be exciting to see what a Boiler Room will look like in the heart of one of the world's major financial districts.
Before now Jude has been living and working on the Marsh Farm Estate, Luton, a housing project described as one of the most deprived in England. More news soon...
