India: praying 24-7 in Mumbai's red light district - 24 Feb 2005

"Oasis India is currently running a 24-7 prayer room in the heart of one
of Mumbai's biggest red light areas," John Nonhebel writes,  "We started praying on Sunday evening 20 February and will finish this Sunday evening on 27 February.

The room literally looks out over buildings which are just full of brothels with hundreds of girls trapped in prostitution - a truly great place for a prayer room....

The room we are using is part of a drop in centre run jointly by Oasis India and the Salvation Army reaching out  to the girls in the area.

It is a new place we have just rented and we decided to do a 24-7 prayer time as way of committing this new phase of our work to God and also to encourage the church in Mumbai to pray against the whole area of prostitution.

We have had a very very good response with people now queuing up for day time slots.  Many  have joined  us as well as other organisations in the city and you can really feel God's presence in that room.

We have lists of names of girls we know who we regularly visiting in the brothels as well as names of all the police officers in the area.  We are trusting God that this time of prayer will help us know the way ahead to see more girls leave the trade and experience God's healing.

Thank you for the vision of 24-7 prayer you have shared through the
24-7 prayer books . It is very exciting."
