Prayer for a Twilight GenerationCarla Harding - 16 Jul 2012
"I feel like a character from the Vampire Diaries..." I think as I pack some rough cut wooden stakes into my luggage.
"Is there a prohibition against bringing stakes through airport security?" I wonder as my bags are scanned at Heathrow and panic rises as I debate whether they're technically considered a weapon.
"This definitely isn't prayer as usual" I decide as I plant my smuggled stake (and a prayer) on a hill over looking Kuala Lumpur on the other side of the world.
My little excursion to Malaysia, though unusual, was not unique. Hundreds (maybe thousands) of others have left their home towns and sometimes their nation to plant a stake and pray their most extravagant prayer of blessing over somewhere else.
It's a prayer staking adventure for the Twilight generation.
Revival Run, as it's been dubbed, is just one way that God's letting young people lead the way in getting prayer out of stuffy old buildings into the places and to the people who need it most.
Why pray over a map when you can jump on a train or plane? Why gather to pray at 7pm when you could get up to pray in a creative, challenging, Spirit-soaked 24-7 Prayer Room at 3am? Why stop at praying for your peers, out drinking and partying on a Friday night and why not get out on the streets and offer free (terrifying but exhilarating) prayer for them.
Too long has prayer been something kept behind church and bedroom doors. Be the light, take the source into our streets. What are the adventures prayer could take you on? Why stick to prayer as usual?
