"God is the ultimate creator" Learning to pray through creativity - 10 Jul 2012
Around the world the Holy Spirit is inspiring creativity as a fresh way to help people pray and encounter God.
In Sydney, Australia a group known as Aroma are doing just this; making space for people to come and engage with God in new creative expressions. The results they have seen have been profound and life changing. Justin Pagotto, a member of group had this to share:
“Our Father is the ultimate creator and we are all created by Him; masterpieces of His love. Aroma is teaching us how to love and the creativity is allowing us to go deeper into people’s hearts.
In one meeting someone had a dream of a lady dancing as she is set free from depression. This was shared with the group and Movements of the Soul was born- a night dedicated to helping people discover freedom through dance! After that the church was turned into a nightclub with our Father worshipped through dance music. I love the diversity in the team, we all have learned to rely on each other as we bring our different skills to the table.
During 21 days of prayer and fasting, we decided to set up 6 prayer stations around the Song of Songs that highlight the journey toward intimacy and maturity - the themes were Dark but Lovely, Our fragrance to God, sitting under the apple tree, Challenging the comfort zone, the Dark Night of the Soul and Setting Jesus as the Seal on our hearts. Here is a beautiful testimony that we received from the event:
“It allowed a space for me to listen for what God had to say to me which can be hard to find in everyday life. God spoke to me about some lies I didn't even realise I was believing. Firstly I thought Jesus loved me only because of who He was. He loved me only because He was loving. But Song of Songs didn't fit with how I thought Jesus loved me because it was such a persistent, intense and ever pursuing love. God revealed to me that He also loves me because of who I am, me specifically! He showed me parts of my character that made Him smile and proud to be my Abba.
Another lie he revealed to me was in how I define myself. That it is not my thoughts or views that define me but it is His words. As my Creator He alone can define who I am. I am valued. I am significant. I am accepted. I am fully loved. I am protected. I am forgiven. I am Yours. “
We have also run prayer spaces for children in our church and are looking to break into schools, both Christian and secular, Prayer Spaces in Schools resources are amazing!
