Head Teacher Weeps over Pupils' PrayersPhil Togwell - 12 Oct 2012
At the end of September, Phil Togwell was in the North-West of England, speaking at a Diocese day conference for Head teachers and clergy in the area. Phil told some stories from Prayer Spaces in schools around the UK - stories of children and young people praying simple, honest prayers, many for the first time in their lives. He showed some photos and then explained some of the practicalities involved in setting up and running a Prayer Space in school.
A few days later, one of the organisers emailed to say; "Thank you again for your input into our day - you touched a lot of hearts. I'm not sure if you spotted her, but there was a Head teacher in tears from almost the start of your bit - sobs I mean, not just a trickle."
At the end of Phil's talk, the Head teacher told the vicar sitting next to her that she'd "been away from her faith for a long while" but wanted to find God again. The vicar suggested that she could come along to their Alpha Course, and she 'signed up' on the spot.
