New Archbishop Endorses 24-7 PrayerTheresa Stone - 9 Nov 2012

Brilliant news about the new Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, who has been chosen to lead the world’s 77 million Anglicans (the third largest group of Christians in the world).

Please pray for the 105th Archbishop of Canterbury who is a passionate advocate for prayer, mission and justice. In fact when he took over from N.T. Wright as Bishop of Durham just over a year ago, the first thing he did was a prayer pilgrimage around the diocese, even stopping to intercede beneath the iconic Angel of the North sculpture. “I am more and more convinced of the centrality of 24-7 Prayer to God’s work because it chimes with the spirit of the age”, he said at the time, pointing out prophetic and missional significance of what we do too: “We are at God’s moment, all the idols have fallen, and the task is to bring people face to face with Jesus. 24-7 Prayer does that for many.”

The 24-7 Prayer ‘Kingdom Come’ Year of Prayer in partnership with Alpha across the UK and Ireland has already resulted in over 550 Prayer Rooms taking place in churches, schools, businesses, at festivals and even in prisons. Thousands have also participated in Kingdom Come Prayer & Worship events at locations such as HTB in London, Kings College Chapel, Cambridge and at St Aldates Oxford last Saturday with the New Wine Network of churches.

Let’s pray for the Welby family at this moment of such profile, pressure and change. Let’s particularly ask God for supernatural wisdom, protection and courage ‘for such a time as this.’
