60 Ugandan schools join 24-7 PrayerAlain Emerson - 2 Jan 2013
Over 60 schools in the Fields of Life network signed up to the 24-7 Prayer movement in 2012. Initially, 20 schools were able to have regular support from Fields of Life staff, but now all 60 have 24-7 prayer areas in operation. Some pray every day while others prayer once a week. A few of the schools have set aside rooms devoted to prayer …… others pray under trees! Whatever the resources, children and young people are able to come together regularly to pray.
The groups range from 20 to entire schools gatherings, in most of the primary schools the teachers come to these meetings and support the children in prayer – this has greatly encouraged the children and helped to deeply root a culture of prayer.
In each of the secondary schools we have two teachers who divide the students into smaller groups of 20 known as ‘prayer families’. Each evening these prayer families pray around the school compound. This is what one student had to say the day she graduated:
“I will always remember this school for what it stands for but I will cherish the moments of prayer and the lessons learnt. 24-7 Prayer has helped me a lot.”
