Prayer central to gangland cease firePete Portal - 4 Jan 2013

Recently we held a 24-7 Prayer Week, in the midst of a fairly intense gang war between 7 gangs, where a lot of innocent people were being killed. Among personal stories of prayer room encounters with Jesus in the small hours, and a time of growing community vision, one of the most significant answers to prayer was that at the end of the week the gangs called a truce - and there has been no war since! We are planning another Prayer Week before the end of the year, excited and expectant!

Fusion is a project working in the community of Manenberg, Cape Town. Manenberg was created by the apartheid government in the 1960's, to house 'non-whites', whom they forcibly removed from the centre of the city. It is a community with widespread gang presence, and much drug abuse.

Fusion works with 'High Risk Youth' - those between 18 and 25 yrs who are either in gangs or on drugs. We begin friendships of mentoring and discipleship, and are establishing a 'transformational community' of those being restored to Jesus. The inevitable overflow of this is that those we work with share Jesus with friends and family, and thus we grow.

We are going to open a house for those struggling with addiction, or in danger from gangs. We have just begun training our young people in baking, and will open a bakery in the coming months.
