Today is Human Trafficking awareness day.

There are more than 30 million slaves around the world today, more than at any other point in human history. The following stats about child labour (taken from compassion.com/trafficking) are hard to swallow but help to highlight the scale of the issue:

• Most child prostitutes are under the age of 12
• A child prostitute can serve up to 1,500 clients a year (that's averaging over 4 a day)
• Every year, child sex tourism victimises about 2 million children
• Sex tourists are 25% American, 18% German, 18% British, 14% Australian

Get the facts and spread the word

Visit websites like Stop the Traffik, Not for Sale, Justice and Care, and Compassion and get the facts - Slavery rings exist in every city in the world (including yours!)

Raise awareness and spread the word by changing your Facebook and twitter status.

Pray

Here are some points to help focus your prayers around this huge issue:

Pray for organisations as they work to abolish slavery.

Pray for local authorities and legal teams as they work to uncover slavery rings.

Pray against corruption in Governments.
