Prayer Alert: Pray for the Mali conflict - 25 Jan 2013

In recent months, hundreds of thousands of Malians have fled their homes in fear and many now are living in increasingly difficult conditions without basic essentials.

The nation is in what the BBC is calling ‘an unprecedented political crisis’.  Religious and ethnic tensions broke out in fighting in the north of Mali last March, coinciding with a coup that removed the then president Amadou Toumani Toure.  Ten months on and the fighting continues.

Along with local church partners, our friends at Tearfund are working to deliver vital help to displaced people who are facing an uncertain future as the conflict intensifies. This vital help is through a joint emergency project to meet education, public health and food security needs of these displaced families and their host communities.

You can help the nation (and the work of Tearfund) right where you are by lifting this situation in prayer.

Please pray for…

  • Peace for the people of Mali
  • God to bring reconciliation and healing across racial and religious divides that many Malians believe to be at the root of this conflict
  • Safety in this dangerous and difficult time for the Church and Tearfund staff in the nation
  • Unity and blessing on the work on the local churches responding to the needs of the people who’ve fled their homes.
