'Getting it Wrong' in RomaniaRebecca Swarbrick - 25 Mar 2013

Romania is a beautiful country with amazing potential, but the country is still discovering how beautiful it is!
Years of communism, poverty, orphans and shocking statistics have created a seemingly insurmountable stigma, but when I moved there a few years ago, the country I found was still one of hidden treasure, people who want to believe things can change even if they currently can’t and many giving their lives to change the lives of others.
Our role as an ecumenical prayer and arts centre is to support local charities and projects and to create a safe, inclusive, relaxing space and creative sanctuary for people to come together, to be unified and to explore their creativity without the fear of “getting it wrong” both in their art and their walk with God. It is all about freedom and expression and being creative – and we love it!
I have a team of six people and a small community who come regularly as well as national and international visitors and the word is spreading! We paint hospitals and orphanages and teach and explore art, photography, film, music, storytelling, prayer, worship etc.
Let me introduce one of our Romanian team members - Mada, and have her explain why the centre is vital to her.
This is why I am so grateful for the Prayer Room. This place has immediately become part of my life because I always feel His presence there. As I quiet my soul in that room, I feel His peace. Right from the first days God started to speak to me there, to search me and bring me closer to Him. He took me into deeper intimacy with Him and I can only rejoice at the thought that He will make this place a light in the city of Brasov and streams of living water will flow from this place.
Things are moving in Romania and this beautiful country is slowly but surely turning its face towards God. I see a generation of young people whose hearts are hungry and thirsty for more of God, more of His presence, of His word. I see the Holy Spirit convincing people to get closer to God and stand in the gap before Him for the land. That is why I want to encourage more people to come and be servants of the Lord in the Prayer Center. There is no greater work in this world than to work for the Kingdom of God. He’s always faithful, doing His part. We just need to do ours.
Come and join us in creativity and praying for, engaging with and releasing Romania and her beautiful people into freedom!
