praying at The Cross (the night-club that is!) - 12 Apr 2005

Sarah Smith writes;
"Imagine a large dark basement area with arches that separate interlocking rooms. Fill it with flashing lights, chunky/throbbing/pulsating beats and about 1000 sweaty people, and you have the ingredients for a perfect night out! OK, it might not be everyone's 'cup-of-tea', but for our club-and-pray crowd, this was about as good as it gets!

12th March at The Cross  was our 6th night out. We've been touring around London’s “superclubs” in recent months, dancing and praying, talking to people and listening to God, trying to figure out what it means to be 'called by God' to clubland. We believe that God so wants to meet with, and transform the clubbing community - we just want to be a part of that.

We’re not sure what this will look like but for now we are just trying to be faithful – calling out to God, lifting His beautiful name up in the clubs and simply making ourselves available to do anything He wants us to. He has spoken to us from the words of Isaiah 62 v 10;
“Pass through, pass through the gates! Prepare the way for the people. Build up, build up the highway! Remove the stones. Raise a banner for the nations.”

(A bit unsure of what it means to “remove the stones” we asked God to show us and He told us to use His word to remove the stones. So before we ventured out into the night we prayed into some verses we felt were key and we also took them in our pockets with us to pray into once in the club. Email me if you'd like more details about which verses we felt were relevant.)

On some of our nights out we’ve found it really difficult to 'get into' praying – like there’s been obstacles in the way, somehow. But there really was something different about our night in The Cross and we found more freedom to pray and worship as we danced. The crowd was great and we had a couple of friendly chats with fellow clubbers. We would love to see this develop further with more God-conversations and the ability to share our faith in an open and loving way. Please pray for us!

Observers looking in at what we are doing might think that we are not accomplishing very much, but I know that we are causing a stir behind the scenes, planting seeds wherever we go. One of the team felt God say that we've been "laying down gunpowder". He’s gonna be coming along soon to set it alight! Another team member kept calling, “my Kingdom come”. Yeah Lord, we want to see your Kingdom come in clubland! Bring it on!!!

Our next club and pray session in London is on Friday 22nd April and we will be going to Fabric: http://www.fabriclondon.com/club.diary.php . If you would like to join us or are interested in finding out more, please email me: [email protected]. Also, if you are not a clubber, but you would like to support us in prayer, we would love to hear from you too!

***ALSO***
We will be having a 24-7prayer clubbing weekend on 12-15 May - we're hoping that clubbers from all over the UK will get into their local clubs that weekend to pray and worship (so far, we're aware of groups in London, Southampton and Portsmouth joining in). This is Pentecost weekend – and we really want to see a fresh outpouring of Holy Spirit on/in the clubbing community! Give us a shout if you'd like to be involved!"
