Unchurched Pupils Get Excited About The BibleChristie Harman - 21 Jun 2013

24-7 Prayer Stanford have started running The God Story in a local school with a group of around 25 students of varying ages and academic abilities.
Every Tuesday a team has the opportunity to add to their work as school chaplains by opening the pages of the bible, and over 13 one-hour sessions, exploring God’s Story with this group of students. The God Story is a brilliant teaching resource created by Adam Cox who leads the Kansas City Boiler Room and explores the chronological story of the bible from Genesis to Revelation.
Six weeks in and we are already seeing change. We have pupils who usually aren’t allowed in lessons due to disruptive behavior, sit silently, absorbed in the great story. Children who have to in separated classes are sat in the same room, just a few chairs from each other, exploring this journey together!
We get to see more and more examples of how the truth can be heard by all. One boy who is finding school a struggle, during the session on ‘The Fall’ asked:
“So have we betrayed God?”
Another girl was so desperate to find out what came after ‘Creation’ that she went home and read the next couple of chapters of Genesis and then taught it to her mum!
To have the privilege of speaking the living, dynamic word of God into the lives of students of a school with students mainly of no faith, is so powerful.
We continue this journey every Tuesday and would love for you to pray for us.
Here is the prayer we use every week before the sessions begins:
“God you are the world’s most famous author,
Your story continues from generation to generation,
Your story began with the creation of the world and is still being written in us today.
God, thank you that we can always learn new things about you
Thank you that you want to include us in your story,
Thank you that we can see you words in us, in one another and in the world.
God, teach us to interpret your story,
Teach us to recognise our place in your story,
Teach us to pass this story on to others.
Amen
