Prayer Spaces in Schools, UK Day ConferencesPhil Togwell - 2 Aug 2013

“The prayer space was a massive success and the benefits of such a place are evident. The spiritual development of children is often overlooked in schools and this week showed just how important it is.” Religious Education Co-ordinator

“I thought it was amazing even though I’m not religious. I felt free.” High school student

"I've never seen prayer displayed or experienced like this before. It's opened up religion into my life again. Thank you." High school student

‘Prayer spaces’ are like 24-7 Prayer rooms in school classrooms, and more than 550 of these prayer spaces have been hosted by local churches in primary and high schools over the past five years. Most of these have taken place in the UK, but a few have taken place in Australia, New Zealand, Uganda, Zambia, Canada, Romania and Germany. So far.

And it’s not just ‘faith-based’ schools. In fact, less than half of these prayer spaces have been hosted in faith schools. Tens of thousands of students, those of faith and no faith, are experiencing Christian prayer for the very first time. The hunger for simple, reflective, creative prayer, and the responses to it, has been incredible.
