Urgent: Pray for EgyptAndy Freeman - 16 Aug 2013

Would you join with us in praying for Egypt, for it’s people and it’s leaders as the nation faces another severe crisis?

Egypt’s recent history has been turbulent with mass demonstrations, the removal of the President and army control.  There are strong and divided arguments about the direction the nation should take and international governments also seem unsure how to act.

This week more than 500 people died as Government forces removed protestors supporting the ousted President, Mohammed Morsi, leader of the Muslim Brotherhood.  Violence has been reported in all of Egypt’s major cities and there have been reprisal attacks on Government buildings and officials.

Egypt’s Coptic Christian’s have also reported attacks on them and on their churches.  Coptic Christians are a significant minority in Egypt (about 10% of the population) but reports suggest Muslim Brotherhood supporters have targeted them as part of their protest.  Events are unclear but it is a reality that the Copt's are suffering increased persecution.

Would you pray with us for Egypt:

  • For peace to break out, and for an end to violence on all sides.
  • For a diplomatic and political solution to be found, and for a fresh chance for elections and for a democratic government.
  • For effective responses from international governments.
  • For Egypt’s Christian minority - for their protection and for the protection of their churches.
