David Dickinson to lead worship at the International Gathering - 21 Sep 2013

David Dickinson is a worship leader at Carnmoney Church in Northern Ireland, a great friend of 24-7 Prayer and is coming to lead worship at the International Gathering in Dublin. David is passionate about developing musically relevant, spirit led worship within the local church framework - worship that is raw honest, speaking of a God who is present amongst his people. He has also worked as the Head of Alpha Northern Ireland for 4 years after graduating in Law from Queens.

We caught up with David for and asked him a couple of questions about himself, music and the upcoming Gathering:

How many instruments do you play?

I play Guitar, Bass, Harmonica and played Trombone when I was a kid. Though I don't tell many people about that. Guitar really only came about because I wanted to play football and rugby at the times I had to take part in orchestra. The deal was - if you quit Trombone you have to learn another instrument. My dad always had an old Yamaha guitar in the house that he played (back in his day he lead worship too) so I chose that.

Electric guitar was a bit of a love at first sight thing, singing came later.

What's your favourite hymn?

I've always been part of Presbyterian churches so hymns kind of come with the territory. If I had to pick one to sing I'd say that 'Then Sings my Soul' is up there. Something of the proclamation of God and what he has done. All these things he has made, what Jesus did, what happens in the end calls out of me what we were made for - worship. Almost an involuntary, basic/simple thing - from the heart & soul.

What are you most excited for about the Gathering?

I can't wait for the Gathering. Something amazing happens when God's people come together to pray and seek him. We're coming off the back of an amazing couple of years of Gathering people from all over Ireland to pray and its just been the most incredible privilege and blessing. I can't wait for that sense of God moving amongst us. The sense of calling back to our Nations with a mission and a purpose and I can't wait for hundreds of accents worshipping God to the same tune.
