Encounter Culture Venues - Dublin 2013Andy Freeman - 4 Oct 2013

It’s just less than two weeks until our Encounter Culture gathering in Dublin from 17-20 October 2013.

Dublin is a city surrounded by history.  The city itself formed in 988AD.  One of the many exciting things to look forward to about the gathering is the classic and significant venues we’ll be meeting in which speak of the ancient and modern of this cool city.

Our main venue will be St. Mark’s Church in central Dublin.  The church dates back to 1757 and became known as a centre for care for those suffering from leprosy in the city - at a time when many other churches turned their back.  The church is now a thriving city centre congregation “reaching out to bring people home.”  It’ll be a great place to gather.

We’ll also be using the Chapel of Trinity College.  Trinity is the city’s university and founded in 1592.  It’s main campus is opposite the Irish Houses of Parliament and as well as being a centre of learning, it is a pilgrimage destination hosting the famous Book of Kells.

As well as historic venues, we’ll also be in Dublin’s cultural quarter called Temple Bar and at the magnificant Filmbase venue.  Temple Bar is a mix of medieval cobbled streets and contemporary art and culture. It highlights the new and the old at the heart of Dublin’s 2013 vibe.
