The 24-7 Prayer Mission to Vestmannaeyjar Festival, Iceland – 25th July to 6th August 2014

In 2012 Simon Turner, a friend of the 24-7 family living in Iceland, felt a strong leading from the Holy Spirit regarding the international music festival which takes place each summer on the beautiful, volcanic Westmann Islands - just off the south coast of Iceland.

"I read about the growing problems that were being experienced; the event had once been a nice community gathering but now there was more and more heavy drinking, violence and drug and sexual abuse. The festival is growing in popularity and attracting thousands from all over Europe and North America and I felt it was important that as Christians we were part of it. We recognised the call of Jesus to the margins, both to pray for a healthier spiritual climate and to reach out with God’s unconditional love."

In their first exploratory summer, Simon and the team found a wide open door to pray 24-7, meet people and have divine led encounters; they met people in tears and struggling with suicidal impulses, while others were exploring spirituality or trying to make sense of their Christian upbringing. By 2013 the team were nicknamed the ‘Jesus coffee people’ and were encouraged to continue in their work by a local Lutheran priest, who said that for too long ‘Christians had been the missing element in the festival family.’

This coming year the work has gone a step further, with the team given a permanent tent at the festival for hospitality, refreshments and prayer. Simon is convinced that God is longing to pour out His love and work miraculously in peoples’ lives. Core values for the team are intimacy with God, being a Jesus centered community, being led by the Spirit and building for the long term. The style of the outreach is relational – looking for the unique treasure and divine spark that God has placed in everyone.

We still have a few spaces on the 24-7 Iceland team – the cost is £395 which includes all the team costs in Iceland and your ticket for the festival. (Additional costs will be insurance and your travel to and from Iceland).
