#prayeralert: Human Trafficking — Today’s SlaveryLaura Gish - 27 Jun 2014

Slavery. A thing of the past? Not so much. It’s taken on a new name and continues to grow — Human trafficking is rampant across the globe, and some countries are showing little to no effort to solve this growing and overwhelming problem.

Recent reports by the U.S. put Malaysia and Thailand at the bottom of four countries taking action against this modern-day slavery. Despite several years of promises to initiate change, these two countries have received the lowest grade possible for a country’s response to fighting human trafficking.

According to the report, there is much evidence of forced labor and sex trafficking. In Malaysia, migrant workers are stripped of their identities, forced into physical labor, and are not granted wages. In Thailand migrants from nearby countries are lured by the prosperity of the country. Many are then forced into a commercial sex industry or involuntary domestic service.

Pray, pray, pray! Pray for these countries and for the precious lives of people who have been enslaved by this horrific crime against humanity.

God, we ask for Your divine intervention against these efforts! We pray that You would use this low-ranking grade to prompt officials to implement laws, prevention resources, and prosecution programs that would fight against this modern-day slavery. Pray that migrants would be aware of the traps and lures set for them as they enter neighbouring nations where this industry bustles and thrives. Pray that God’s people, His church, would rise up and be a voice for those who have become victims of this crime. Pray that brothers and sisters in Thailand would boldly proclaim God’s truth to their nation.

Pray for the Holy Spirit to empower believers to move and fight against this evil scheme.

When the enemy comes in like a flood, The Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him. — Isaiah 59:19 (NKJV)
