Celtic 'monk' and author to speak at 24-7 Missions Camp - 24 Jun 2005

Ray Simpson lives and works on Holy Island in Northumbria.  Ordained a priest in the Church of England, he’s especially interested in learning from the ancient Celts and is the author of ‘Exploring Celtic Spirituality’ and ‘Celtic Blessings’.

In 1985 he visited Holy Island (also known as Lindisfarne) for the first time – the beginning of an annual pilgrimage to the place where St Aidan established one of the first Christian communities in Anglo-Saxon England.

On New Year’s Eve in 1987, he experienced a call by God to explore a new way in the church, a reinvigoration of a spirituality that was vital in the monastic communities of the Celtic church.

“The purpose of pilgrimage is to tread in the shoes of Christ or his saints in order to make contact with the many rich experiences that are inevitable when we travel with him…  Pilgrimages move us out of our comfort zones, help us to depend upon God and others, and inspire us to mission.” Ray Simpson – talking to Pilgrimage pages

Ray will be speaking to us at Transmission about the relevance and depth to be found in Celtic spiritual practices in the 21st Century and leading morning prayers for the camp.
