#prayeralert: 23 Camps Host 600,000 Refugees in Ethiopia. Laura Gish - 27 Aug 2014

The number of refugees flooding into Ethiopia from neighbouring countries now tops those in Kenya. Sudanese refugees are among the majority as a result of conflict that erupted last December. Forced out of their homes, hundreds of thousands of Sudanese sought refuge in nearby nations — 250,000 fled to Ethiopia.

With the help of humanitarian efforts, about 23 refugee camps have been set up to provide aid, food, water, shelter and supplies. And hope.

While some have found camps with tents for shelter, heavy rains have flooded many of the campsite areas. Efforts are being made to locate campsites to higher ground. Meanwhile, they are working to drain the floodwaters. Tents and shelters have been lost under the standing water. Discomfort, ruined belongings, shattered lives — no hope for what's coming, as now floodwaters pose the threat of waterborne disease. “What next?” they ask. “What next?”

Now we pray. Please add your prayers to ours for Ethiopia!

  • Pray that efforts underway will happen quickly. Ask God for a solution to draining the water in the camps.
  • Pray that the Lord provides other places of shelter, on higher ground, for the thousands of refugees.
  • Pray for an abundance of supplies: food, water, shelter, medical aid, etc. Pray against any outbreak of diseases.
  • Pray against further displacement of refugees from the shelter they have been provided.
  • Continue to intercede for the country of Sudan and the 1.3 million people that have been forced out of their lands due to ongoing conflict. Pray for peace.
