Fighting for our Broken World - 28 Nov 2015

Our world is broken; and it’s easy to feel disappointed or discouraged. But with a God who is alive and active, change is possible.

Change begins by interacting and engaging with the creator of our world about the problems of our world. United as one community, as Christians we’re called to align our hearts with God’s -  to fight for justice and fairness in our world.

“Do you know what I want?

I want justice—oceans of it.

I want fairness—rivers of it.

That’s what I want. That’s all I want”

Amos 5:23-24

One way to do this is to literally pray for our world. Our planet is changing; and that’s not necessarily a good thing. It’s getting hotter, and that’s having already having an impact on people living in extreme areas.

The Church is called to protect and care for the world that we live in; and that means actually caring for our planet.  Getting hotter means more flooding, more drought, more lives at risk.

On Sunday, world leaders are meeting together to talk about climate change in a conference called COP21. This year’s gathering is crucial; it could be one of the last opportunities for leaders to make a difference to our planet before it’s too late.

Praying for this conference is vital to ensure that leaders come up with an action plan to protect future generations living on earth. All over the world, people are taking action to show their support. Join in, and sign up for an hour of prayer for COP21 so that we can cover the whole conference in prayer.

We can’t stand by while others are suffering. Let us be the generation that grasps hold of the hope of a better world; to be the community who take responsibility to build a better world.

Creative ideas to fuel your prayers

  • Read the news, and pray for a nation around the world that’s recently been affected by flooding, drought or extreme weather.
  • Paint or draw a picture of something you love that could be affected by climate change, giving thanks for it.  (link to For the Love Of)
  • Fill up a glass with water and give thanks for the simple blessing that water is to our bodies and the difference it makes. Pray for communities who struggle to have enough water in their family.
  • Take a walk to a local place where you can praise God for creation – perhaps beside the sea, in a local park, forest or hill near your house.
