Desperation to Hope: the Power of opening the prayer room doorTandia Hughes - 9 Mar 2016
"Their morale has soared. God has heard their cry..."
Running a prayer room isn’t always just about connecting with God; this amazing story from a community in Australia shows that opening the prayer room door can change lives…
“It was Monday morning, 3 hours into our 24 hours of prayer. A middle-aged couple stood in front of us at the door.
They shared their story; it turned out that he had been made redundant just before Christmas. This meant that they had lost their home and were unable to pay their bills. As a result the couple found themselves homeless; sleeping in their car on the side of the road, and eating cereal to survive.
Despite many attempts to get help with work, accommodation and food, they felt that they weren’t getting anywhere. The wife had been a carer for children and the elderly, and the husband had been a mechanic, but it felt like everything was lost.
Their morale was extremely low. They were feeling desperate.
At this point one of the ladies in the prayer room spoke up. She works as a carer, and after providing a number for work, she explained that they were looking for male carers too; the husband was more than happy to try this route.
Even more incredibly, our friend wasn’t meant to be in the prayer room that morning but felt that God wanted her to be there.
The couple left, now with potential jobs, but also with hope. They’re also planning to volunteer at our centre for the homeless, which means they’ll be able to contribute to the community and help others; but will also have access to showers and regular meals.
Their morale has soared. God has heard their cry. Who knows what will happen next?
This incredible turnaround happened over one hour of prayer. God is so good!”
