The rise of the Lone-Wolf Attackers - 28 Jul 2016

This week, Pete Greig received an email from a source in international security, asking us to cry out in prayer for the world:

“The recent series of attacks in cities across our globe; where one individual has executed a planned attack; carry a similar theme.

In each case they appear to be young individuals, predominantly men, who have been living “western” hedonistic lives, and feel a deep sense of guilt and failure.

One compelling option they are offered through the wrong networks is not only full redemption, but glorification and, of course, the promise of eternal life along with a sense of achievement and success through acts of terror.

It's a quick fix. We need to pray for these lone-wolf attackers to find Jesus.”

Standing Strong:

“Be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.

Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places”

- Eph 6:10-12

We know that we are in a spiritual battle. Yet we also know the truth of who God is and what he has done. We can stand in the knowledge that God is powerful and mighty, and as Christians we need to declare God’s glory over all evil.

"The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it"

- John 1:1

How to Pray:

- Pray for the protection of vulnerable individuals tempted to find ‘redemption’ through attacks.

- Pray for security services to intercept and defeat the evil before it happens

- Pray for the gospel to reach those struggling with feelings of guilt and isolation

- Proclaim the truth that God’s light continues to shine brightly in the darkness

‘The critics of Christianity do not see in how many people the flood of evil is restrained and wild habits are tamed, by the gospel.’

- Origen
