“No distractions. No excuses” - a 15 year old's guide to Prayer Rooms - 2 Sep 2016

To celebrate the start of a new season of prayer rooms, we asked 15 year old Danny Greig to tell us why he loves spending time with God in creative spaces: 

"We need to learn to make time for God  - learning to hear his voice is so valuable for our faith..."

Prayer is a huge part of our faith - but it’s something everyone struggles with. We all have occasions where we don’t devote time to talk to God; often because we’re too busy or we forget to prioritise it in our day.

This means that prayer rooms are so helpful for our faith - a place where we can devote time to God. No distractions. No excuses. Just your time, spent in different types of prayer.

When our church does a prayer week, I try hard to make time for it. Why? Because God is our creator, and our Father. He made us and longs to speak to us. So we should speak and have a conversation with him.

Every prayer room is different - that’s why I love them. Prayer rooms help me to find new ways of talking to God and the best ways for me to speak to and hear God.

“But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you...”

Matthew 6:6

Each one of us is wired differently and will hear God in different ways - whether through direct prayer, the Bible, music or art - God will speak. The first time I was in a prayer room I went round each station to find out how I hear God best. There, I discovered that silence, prayer and the Bible all help me to focus on His voice. Since then I’ve tried to do this regularly, but it’s not always easy.

We all need to learn to make time for God  - learning to hear his voice is so valuable for our faith, and when we learn to hear him he will show us the way; we’ll do what we never thought possible. He is a loving and all powerful God, with whom nothing is impossible.

It all starts with devoting time to God - seize any opportunities that you have to book time with Him. Learn to hear his voice by experiencing a prayer room, you won’t regret it!
