A300: Join the New Learning JourneyChristian Wittwer - 23 Jun 2018

The “Adventure of the 300” or A300, is a new learning journey especially for those who are attracted by intentional communities and/ or new monastic movements.

Christian Wittwer is part of the A300 team, based in Switzerland, and shares a little of the context:

Our vision for A300 has taken a number of years to become reality. Over a decade ago we started praying and planning, inspired by an extract from a letter written by Dietrich Bonhoeffer to his brother in 1935:

“...the restoration of the church will surely come only from a new type of monasticism which has nothing in common with the old but a complete lack of compromise in a life lived in accordance with the Sermon on the Mount in the discipleship of Christ.  I think it is time to gather people together to do this...”

When God placed this letter on our hearts, I was working as a pastor in Switzerland; but my wife and I felt challenged by Bonhoeffer’s words and decided to leave our comfort zones.

I decided to quit my job and became a missionary in a different sense; as a manager in the business world. At this time we also helped to start a 21st century monastery and moved there with our family, which became the start of the Manor House Community.

This is where A300 has been developed, and this August we expect that between 7- 15 people will start journeying with us on our first A300 course.

There are a mixture of on-site modules -  taking place in the Manor House Community, Switzerland and Polylux Community, Germany – and off-site modules, facilitated by monthly Skype meetings.

Each individual will also meet with a spiritual director regularly, and the whole training period will end in a three-week pilgrimage across Europe.

A300 is an incredible opportunity for anyone who is exploring what it looks like to become part of a monastic order. It’s also for anyone thinking about pioneering, or already part of an intentional community in a European city.

Come and join the journey with us this August!
