At it again: UK community preps for third month of non-stop prayer - 2 Feb 2006

Christians from around North Staffordshire are uniting to accomplish yet another entire month of continuous, unbroken prayer! The city’s Saltbox Christian Centre has collaborated withmore than 30 local congregations to organize this, the third month-long prayer rota in the last year.

The prayer month initiative is part of the 2C7 series of monthly, united prayer gatherings that began in the area in October 2001. The 2C7 name is taken from an Old Testament passage, 2 Chronicles 7:14, which emphasises humility, repentance and prayer.  The 2C7 gatherings are led by Lloyd Cooke and his colleague, Robert Mountford.

“North Staffordshire has witnessed a growing emphasis on corporate prayer in the last few years," Mountford said. "Christians from all denominations are meeting together to pray for the city.”

As well as the monthly 2C7 united prayer meetings, there are now also large numbers of church leaders from across the area who regularly meet together for prayer each month. Encouragingly, the prayer focus has seen the development of a number of caring ministries as local people have sought to find practical ways of answering their own prayers and caring for those in need in their communities.

“We are encouraging specific prayer for the spiritual transformation of North Staffordshire and also for its practical regeneration," said  Lloyd Cooke. "As Christians, sometimes we can fall into the trap of separating our spiritual activities from practical neighbourhood and city involvement, and we don't ever want to do that.”
