UK Parliament 24-7prayer 2006 - 9 May 2006
Parliament 24-7prayerLast week, Phil and Jo from 24-7prayer UK were in Portculis House (next door to Big Ben) to join with a dozen-or-so staff for their weekly Christians in Parliament prayer meeting. After praying around the upcoming local elections, they prayed for one another's life and work in these 'corridors of influence and power'. It's not easy to live life like Jesus in the Houses of Parliament.
...which is why we really want you to get involved in this;
the Parliament and Whitehall 24-7prayer Week : 13th - 20th June.
From Tuesday 13th until Tuesday 20th, Christians across the Houses of Parliament and in many Whitehall departments (last year, they prayed in the Ministry of Defence, the Home Office, the Cabinet Office, the Foreign Office, and others) will pray in their offices, in conference rooms, in chapels and in places of significance, such as Big Ben itself.
What we need to do is pray for them. Like I said, it is hard to live life like Jesus in these places. And as the Church, we are often guilty of praying against Parliament (and the BBC, and the Media, etc.), instead of for. The Bible appeals to us - "pray for your leaders." So let's do it.
Our aim is to mobilise as many churches and youth groups and individuals as possible to pray through that week - 24-7 if possible, but at least every day - to pray for the Christian community across the Parliamentary estate. For courage. For discernment and wisdom. For love. And for transformation.
Other ways you can get involved;
1. Night-shifts. We need a bunch of churches/youth-group to pray-through one of the nights (8pm until 8am) from Tuesday 13th until Monday 19th.
2. Prayer-walking. Come and join others as we pray around the Westminster estate every day that week (programme available nearer the time). 24-7prayer team and Parliament staff will lead these sessions and provide updates on how the praying is going inside Parliament.
3. Contact your MP, and tell her/him that you'll be praying for them. Maybe you could come up to the Houses of Parliament and ask to see them to tell them this one small thing - "we are praying for you. What can we pray for?" Wouldn't it be incredible if Members of Parliament were inundated throughout that week with people coming into the Houses of Parliament, offering to pray for them... instead of the usual barrage of lobbying and criticism, something completely different. Blessing. Kindness. Encouragement. How about it?
