USA: Salvation Army Year of Prayer continues... - 6 Sep 2006
The
Salvation Army USA Eastern Territory Region –
A
YOP from June 2006-June 2007
|
On
June 9th, the Salvation Army in the Eastern USA – from
Maine to Delaware and west to Kentucky – started praying 24-7…and
they won’t stop for a year! You can expect to see at least
one Salvation Army group praying 24-7 each day till June 2007! |
The
24/7 prayer room was a true blessing from God during our first days
on camp. While we were in the transition of moving here in a new
appointment, it was a blessing to know that the camp was being bathed
in prayer 24 hours a day. That first week was so smooth and I feel
the credit lies entirely within the hands of God hearing the
heartfelt prayers of His children. We
have continued to keep the prayer room open and I truly believe that
it has provided a sanctuary and a place that people can open
up and intercede on each other’s behalf.

During
our time of prayer, the Holy Spirit's presence was evident. As
we were praying for the needs that were posted on the prayer board,
we felt led to continue the prayer time outdoors. So, we did. With
courage in our hearts and our Bibles in our hands we marched out of
the corps and into the streets, praying. The streets mainly consisted
of prostitutes and drug dealers and my wife, Erika began to compel
"the women of the night" to come and journey down a
different path and see what God has in store for their lives. As she
began to speak to them they began to cry out and tell her what they
needed. We prayed for these women and are continuing to lift these
women to the Lord in prayer!
Since
that evening, we have been touched with an unexplainable sensitivity
towards God's people who live a bleak life and feel that "wanting"
is all they'll ever be. This prayer experience has increased our
love for God's people and our desire to serve him all the more.
To us, this is a praise report!

O
Lord, we thank you for hearing us. Thank You for caring &
understanding. Your Word says You love us with an everlasting
love. Your Word says we can cast our cares on You. Your Word
says that you delight in our praises. How can it be Lord that You -
Creator & King of All would delight in me? I don’t understand
it – Your ways are not ours & Your thoughts are higher than
ours – yet you are mindful of us. I marvel at your mysteries &
yet we can grow in knowing You everyday. Thank you Lord, for being
Big enough to handle the biggest thing & compassionate enough to
handle the smallest.
Dear
Lord God, I find myself struck tonight just by the perfection of
your plan and your sovereignty. How amazing that your hand is on all
the little details of our lives!

Reflections
Massachusetts
We
had our 24 hour prayer day and what an outpouring of the Holy Spirit!
We turned the Family Visitation Room just off the lobby into the
prayer room and it indeed became "holy ground". In
order to have enough slots for everyone we went to 1/2 hour prayer
times and still people were wanting to join in to pray with those in
the room.

It
was amazing to see how everyone contributed to the room with pictures
and drawings, music and decorations. The serenity felt just walking
into the room was awesome. It was like stepping into another world;
for a few moments in time you were alone with God and apart from all
the worries and cares of this world. What a glorious experience.

We
have had families open their homes within their neighborhoods and
have seen friends and others come in to pray. God is truly moving. As
part of the prayer chain in Columbus we carried the baton from July
7th @ 7PM to July 10 @ 7 PM. In the corps we actually set up a tent
as our prayer room (tent). The corps was held open for prayer even
through the night. On the 8th we did a lock in with some of the youth
from the corps and the community and the Spirit just moved as young
person after young person felt the burden to prayer. Our prayer board
quickly filled with prayer request and PRAISE reports. The night of
the 8th we were on the streets in the community seeking out those who
would like prayer. Through this effort our corps family has grown
closer and deeper in their relationships with God and each other. We
have seen young people make first time commitments or renew their
commitment with God. Praise God from whom all blessings flow.
