24-7 News Update from Boy's Town Mexico: "We Got Land!" - 21 Sep 2007
We just received some exciting news of a major answer to prayer from our friend Kelly Greene, who is reaching out to prostitutes and drug dealers in Boy's Town, Mexico. "On Tuesday night, we finalised the land deal!" After a long and difficult legal process, Kelly just became the proud owner of a significant piece of land on the very edge of Boy's Town where she plans to build a centre for 24-7 prayer, rehabilitation and accommodation as well as a place where children can sleep safely while their mothers are 'working' on the streets. Mind you, right now the land looks like jungle. "We officially own a lot of weeds (possibly weed?) and several snakes," jokes Kelly, "but soon it will be a place of beauty where our friends will write new chapters in their stories. Thanks for all your prayers, your encouragement and your friendship from Mexico's newest landowner!"
As Kelly prepares for this exciting new phase of her dream for Boy's Town, she is praying not just for land but also for people who will come and live the adventure with her. It's not an easy mission, you do need to be willing to learn Spanish and to commit to the place for at least 18 months, but the prophet Isaiah puts the vision beautifully like this:
"If you are generous with the hungry
and start giving yourselves to the down-and-out,
Your lives will begin to glow in the darkness,
your shadowed lives will be bathed in sunlight.
I will always show you where to go.
I'll give you a full life in the emptiest of places-
firm muscles, strong bones.
You'll be like a well-watered garden,
a gurgling spring that never runs dry.
You'll use the old rubble of past lives to build anew,
rebuild the foundations from out of your past.
You'll be known as those who can fix anything,
restore old ruins, rebuild and renovate,
make the community livable again." (Isaiah 58: 11-12 MSG)
