Text alert - 20 Jun 2002
We are really excited to be preparing to launch a whole new dimension of 24-7 - a new 'clan' for the Prayer Movement...We have been given the technology to build a massive community of prayer - via text messaging. People will simply text a password to a 5 digit number, to register to receive weekly prayer bulletins and bible bulletins by text direct to their mobile phones - wherever and whenever.
WOW
We're calling it 24-7 W.O.W which stands for Watchmen on the Walls. This reference to Isaiah 62 describes our aim of having thousands of people ready to be alerted at lightning speed to prayer requests from around the world. In Jesus' time they used a trumpet. Today we can use cell phones!
the one-off call to register will cost the phone user £1.50 from their next bill, of which £1 comes directly back to 24-7 to cover our costs in sending out weekly alerts over a 3 month period.
We hope to have 2000 people on text standby within a year, ready to pray at a moments notice - in the pub, at school or at work.
We will be launching the 24-7 WOW community at TheCall England in July. The package was due to have its international launch at the Glastonbury Rock Festival this year for Oxfam. But the company has now been unable to meet this dealine and has informed us that the text system will instead be launched throuigh 24-7! National newspapers are being alerted. This is a 1st.
Please keep this quiet because we dont want to let the cat out of the bag just yet.
