Where will you be on 2 July? - 22 Jun 2005

'Sometimes it falls upon a generation to be great. You can be that generation.' Nelson Mandela, 2005

"There are some dates in history which are etched in living memory forever.
Ask anyone who was alive the day that President John F Kennedy was shot, where they were and they will be able to tell you exactly," says Ben Clowney of Tearfund (24-7's UK partners).

"Some people remember the minutest details like what they were wearing, what the person they were with was saying at the exact moment, and they all remember how they felt. Some moments last eternally...

This summer 2 July will be such a moment.

Never before have so many people been expected to turn out to march against poverty as will on 2 July in Edinburgh.

The reason? Eight men will meet to make decisions which will affect the lives of more than 800 million people. The future of poverty lies locked in their discussions and decisions on trade, aid and debt. Their decisions can be influenced if we speak up and take action to challenge them this (northern)summer.
'Where will you be on 2 July? What will you tell the next generation when they ask you where you were when poverty was made history in 2005?'

Where will you be on 2 July?

What will you and your friends tell the next generation when they ask you where you were when poverty was made history in 2005?  The Tearfund Youth Team believe that this opportunity to speak up on behalf of the poor and challenge the injustice of unfair trade rules, crippling debt repayments, and insufficient aid, just cannot be missed.

That's why we are heading to Edinburgh to make some noise, and we are inviting you to join with tens of thousands of others for the Make Poverty History rally in Edinburgh. Sign up with us and you'll get a church floor to sleep on, breakfast
on both mornings and lots of exciting worship and prayer events to attend, including a Sunday morning celebration with worship led by Tim Hughes.
All for just £25!
