London - please pray right now! - 7 Jul 2005
Phil Togwell, UK Base Leader, has been around Liverpool Street and Moorgate for most of the day - he reports;
"It's still pretty chaotic. A lot of the roads are blocked. And buses and trains have stopped running. Obviously, the police and fire crews are trying to keep people clear of train stations - there's still a lot of confusion with people on the streets, probably wondering how they're going to get home.
Earlier, I listened to one woman, with her face still covered in soot/smoke, telling of her frightened experiences at Aldgate station - she was on one of the trains that were suffered an explosion earlier - news-crews clamoured around us, trying to get a bit more 'news'."
***PLEASE PRAY*** RIGHT NOW - stop what you're doing and pray... It's easy, at times like this, to become news-junkies, tv-voyeurs, when we really need to be praying...
- for *no more* explosions. For any further plans of those who have caused the explosions so far to fail.
- for the hundreds injured, that they would recover physically and emotionally, and the families of the many dead.
- for the stretched emergency services, especially those in hospitals treating the wounded right now, for courage and wisdom and skill in all they need to do.
- for the Salvation Army teams, supporting the emergency services, and providing care at Kings Cross. And for many other churches to respond well.
- for Tony Blair, for the G8 leaders, and for politicians at this time - that they would speak with wisdom, and respond with compassion.
- for a 'right' response in our own hearts and lives. Love and wisdom and courage.
Shalom.
