Afraid of The Stillness - 6 Oct 2006

Are we afraid that perhaps if we got still God would not be there? Fearful of being quiet and still is something that we must overcome and understand. O God, we must learn how to be still before you. Yes, as you have said repeatedly: "Come to the place of my presence." You are waiting for me every morning. You watch over me and wait just for me to be there for You. |
|
Perhaps that is the key to why we love our busyness. That's an interesting phenomenon. In trying to find the correct spelling of busyness, I ran across the word, "busywork." It is defined as: "Activities assigned or undertaken that take up time but do not necessarily yield productive results."

O Lord, it does seem that I can get so caught in "busywork" that yields no fruit at all toward your Kingdom. This is the most precious time and I will not waste it. It is time to get to the heart of some things while I am here and have the time to press into what is on your heart. Get to me, O God. Get down into the inner core of my being. Get past all the walls of my heart to that place of transparency. It is getting to that place of your Oneness with myself--that place of "I, yet not I, but Christ..."
Lord, is it that we are spiritually lazy that we would prefer busyness over being still? It is easy to flip on a television program, or read a newspaper, or novel, or talk on the phone, or answer e-mails, but getting still has to be |
the greatest of spiritual disciplines. Yet, is not this stillness, this waiting upon you, the greatest gift of worship that I can give you.
And so it was and is, as I finally got still and felt His pleasure that I discovered what true worship of God really is. Worship: the giving of my whole self to God for Him to enjoy. "
